MULTI-TERM REGISTRATION F.A.Q.
Q: Why is multi-term registration being implemented?
A: To allow you to better balance your academic, personal and work life. Planning ahead for an academic year can help you achieve your educational objective sooner rather than later.

Q: How do I know if I’m eligible for multi-term registration?
A: If you are eligible, you will receive registration appointments for both Fall 2007 and Spring 2008 in PantherSoft. Please also check your messages on MyFIU for further information about your eligibility.

Q: Do I have to pay for all my courses at once?
A: No. Each term has a separate payment deadline. See the Academic Calendar for specific dates.

Q: If I register during multi-term for both semesters, when will I receive my financial aid?
A: You will receive your financial aid at the beginning of each of the fall and spring semesters.

Q: Is there a minimum GPA requirement to qualify for multi-term registration?
A: Yes. A cum GPA of 2.5 or better for a continuing degree-seeking undergraduate student is required. A cum GPA of 3.0 or better for a continuing degree-seeking graduate student is required.

Q: Am I required to complete the CLAST to qualify for multi-term registration?
A: Yes. A cum GPA of 2.5 or better and successful completion of the CLAST exam are required for continuing degree-seeking undergraduate students with 60 or more earned credits.

Q: I am a non-degree seeking student. Do I qualify for multi-term registration?
A: No. Non-degree seeking students (including those in certificate programs) do not qualify for multi-term registration.

Q: Can I register for a spring course that requires a fall prerequisite course?
A: Yes. However, you must successfully complete your fall prerequisites to reserve enrollment in the spring course. If you drop, fail or receive an incomplete in the fall (prerequisite) course, then you will be dropped from the sequential spring course.

Q: Who can I talk to about multi-term registration?
A: We encourage you to discuss your academic progress toward your degree and any related multi-term registration questions with your advisor. Staff members are also available to answer your questions at: askmulti-term@fiu.edu.

Q: What happens if I am dropped for non-payment?
A: Your courses will be dropped from the current and future term registration. For example, if you are dropped for non-payment from your fall courses, you will also be dropped from your spring courses.

Q: If I am dropped for non-payment, can I re-register?
A. If you are dropped for non-payment you will have the opportunity to re-register for courses for fall and spring through the registration drop/add period which ends September 4, 2007. Any class added during this time must be paid for on the same day to avoid a $100 late payment fee.

Q: If I register for a class and it gets cancelled, how will I find out?
A: You should regularly check your class schedule to ensure that they are still active. The University reserves the right to cancel classes for lack of sufficient enrollment.

Q: I'm supposed to graduate next term. Can I register for only one semester?
A: Yes. You are only required to enroll for the semester necessary to complete your degree.

Q: What if I do not qualify now for multi-term registration?
A: You will have the opportunity to register for the spring semester during the standard registration time in November. We encourage you to check your degree audit report and academic standing periodically.

Q: Is it possible that I might qualify for multi-term registration at a later date?
A: Yes. If you satisfy your eligibility requirements prior to the end of the fall semester drop/add period, you will be given an opportunity to register in advance for the spring semester.

Q: I am an international student. Am I eligible for multi-term registration?
A: Yes, provided you satisfy the academic program requirements for the program and have no administrative holds that prevent enrollment. International students in F and J visa status must also satisfy the international student medical insurance requirement for the academic year through purchase of the University approved plan for international students or approval of an alternate insurance plan through August 2008.
International students in F or J visa status eligible for multi-term registration who satisfy the medical insurance requirement for fall term only and registered for fall and spring must satisfy the requirement for the remainder of the academic year prior to Registration Access week for the spring term. Students with spring enrollments who have not satisfied the medical insurance requirement will be dropped from spring classes during Registration Access week.
